About Us

Munster Girls Softball, Inc. is an Indiana Not-For Profit Corporation  established  on February 23, 1973.  The purpose for which the Corporation was formed is to stimulate participation in girls softball, and develop a spirit of good sportsmanship and fair play. It is suggested in the Articles of Incorporation that, the supervisors of the league bear in mind, at all times, that the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or the winning of games is secondary, and that the molding of future citizens is of prime importance.

Munster Girls Softball, Inc. is managed and supervised by a Board of Directors.  Annually, the Board of Directors elects executive board members consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The term of office of the executive board members is one year.  The Board consists of parents of current or former players. Board Members  are nominated  by current Board Members. A majority vote of current Board members is needed to elect a new Board Member. Board meetings are held monthly, usually on the last Sunday of the month at Munster Town Hall. The times and dates may vary. The meetings are open to the public.

Munster Girls Softball has established and adopted a published set of rules contained in an Official Rule Book. The Rule Book addresses various issues concerning, eligibility, conduct of players and coaches, field rules, game times limits, player draft rules  and various other issues. A copy of these rules is available on this website.

Numerous standing Board Committees are established and each Board Member is appointed by the President to chair at least one of the various committees. The Committees include, Finance, Fund Raising, and numerous League Organizational  committees.

Girls,  ages 5 though 17,  are eligible to play in the league, subject to certain residency and school attendance requirements,  in certain league divisions. The league consists of various divisions of play. The divisions are:  Instructional A, Instructional B, Junior Miss, Minor and Major.  Players are assigned to a division based on their grade level or age as of January 1 of the year of play.

Games are umpired by Youth Umpires who are supervised by the adult Umpire-In-Chief.  Youth umpires are trained and schooled in NSA or other softball regulations. They are compensated for their umpire services by the league.

Registration for league and travel team play is typically held in late January and early February at the Wilbur Wright Middle School in Munster. Announcements of registrations are mailed to former players, in schools and advertised in local newspapers. Registration fees total  approximately $110.00 per player, which includes a refundable concession stand duty fee which is reimbursed upon completion of an assigned work detail. The league supplies team shirts to each player and certain team equipment including catchers gear, bats, and softballs.

Tryouts are held for new players and those players moving up to a higher division for the Jr. Miss through Major Divisions in March of each year. Instructional League Players are exempted from tryouts.

Managers for all divisions are solicited and the names are submitted to the Board for qualification review, approval and election.  Managers attend a player draft in March to select their players. The draft is regulated by rules established and approved by the Board and enforced by the Chief League Commissioner.

The vast majority of  games are played  in Community Park in Munster, except for some travel team games and certain Major Division games. The Games are played on week day evenings and  Saturdays during the day.  The season typically runs from late May through early July.  Travel Team play usually runs into early August.

We hope you will join us in the Munster Softball Experience.
