MGS YOUTH UMPIRE PROGRAM:

The MGS Youth Umpire Program is looking for young people interested in becoming umpires for MGS. The program is open to boys and girls age 14 and older, and is designed to teach responsibility and to provide quality umpires. Preference for games will be given to Munster residents. Umpires must attend a two day umpire clinic on MARCH 13 & 14 at Wilbur Wright Middle School gym (or any other Indiana NSA training clinic). Attendance at an annual Munster Girls Softball rules clinic is also required. Participants pay for training and uniform, some of which is reimbursed by MGS after umpping five games.

To sign up to be an umpire, you must register with the NSA and sign up for a clinic. You must also pay a $85 registration and association fee. You can pay this fee in any of three different ways. When registering on the NSA web site, or when registering for the clinic, or you may pay in person at the clinic.

Step 1: Register with the NSA. You can register direct with the NSA by clicking on the following link.

Then select "Umpire Registration" in the left column. Then fill out the registration form and "Signup". You may pay the registration and association fee via the NSA web site. It is not recommended to send the fee through the mail as it may not arrive in time and may cause confusion at the upcoming clinic.

Step 2: Sign up for the clinic: To sign up for the clinic click here. Click "Umpire Clinic" and fill out the form and click "Submit". If you want to pay on-line you may do so from this site also. Or you can simply go to the clinic and pay in person.

Regardless of how you pay (online or in-person) you should add a note with your check and/or the Pay Pal message spot documenting what you are paying for.

The NSA will have some items for sale at the clinic, including equipment, hats and shirts. Participants will be issued their registration card and # that weekend (at least that is our plan).

UMPIRE PAY SCHEDULE

MGS Umpire Pay Schedule

1st year MGS Umpires $15.00 per game
2nd year MGS Umpires $18.00 per game
3rd year MGS Umpires $21.00 per game
4th or more years MGS Umpires $25.00 per game

In addition, an umpire who works two games on a Friday night
shall receive a $10 bonus.

For all 2 umpire games (instructional A games are 1 Umpire
Games, all others are 2 umpire games) If an umpire has to
start a game by themselves and their partner umpire shows
up before the 1st inning is complete (complete inning) the
tardy umpire will work, however, the “ON TIME” umpire will
be paid $5.00 extra and the tardy umpire will be docked
$5.00 for being late.

For all 2 umpire games, if an umpire has to start a game by
themselves and has completed the 1st inning (complete inning)
before their partner appears, they have the right to refuse
to allow the tardy umpire to work and they will be paid $10.00
extra for the game. The tardy umpire will NOT be paid. If the
“ON TIME” umpire allows the tardy umpire to work after the 1st
inning is complete, the “ON TIME” umpire will be paid $5.00
extra and the tardy umpire will be docked $5.00 for being late.

If an umpire who has scheduled themselves does NOT appear for a
game without a valid excuse and after having contacted (spoke
to, not left voice mail message) either/or Jim Lebryk, Beverly
Schweitzer, only, (at least 2 hours prior to
game time) their scheduling privileges will be suspended.

If an umpire who has scheduled themselves is tardy for more than
2 games (without valid excuse(s) and after having contacted (spoke
to, not left voice mail message) either/or Jim Lebryk
or Beverly Schweitzer, only, (at least 2 hours prior to game time)
their scheduling privileges will be suspended.
